Holiday Boat Parade - July 2, 2016
BOAT WASHING TO REDUCE TRANSFER OF INVASIVE SPECIES
Washing boats before being launched and after being pulled from a lake has been shown to be an effective way to reduce the transfer of invasive species from one lake to another. The Michigan State Extension program in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality operates a portable boat washing station to demonstrate the potential for lake associations.
The LLPOA Board invited the DEQ to Lakeville Lake for a demonstration on August 15, 2014. Boats were voluntarily washed for free prior to being launched. The photos below were taken at the event.
The LLPOA Board is considering inviting the boat washing activity back for a date this year.
